Latonya Dilligard Edwards
Latonya Dilligard Edwards attended Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte, North Carolina. Upon graduating from college, she attended The Ohio State University College of Law, where she served as Managing Editor of The Ohio State University Journal on Dispute Resolution and Chief Justice of the Lawyering Skills Program (Moot Court). Latonya was also a Frederick Douglass Moot Court regional quarterfinalist.
After law school graduation, Latonya served as Federal Judicial Law Clerk to the Honorable Richard C. Erwin, Senior United States District Judge for the Middle District of North Carolina. During her tenure as Federal Judicial Law Clerk, Latonya drafted a memorandum opinion that was a case of first impression in securities law. In 1998, Latonya returned to South Carolina and served as Assistant County Attorney for Richland County, where she provided advice and counsel to the Human Resources Department, the Zoning Board of Appeals, the Planning Commission, and the Procurement Review Panel. She also represented Richland County in state and federal courts.
Prior to opening her law practice, Latonya was General Counsel for two (2) state agencies and also served as Of Counsel for a local law firm. Latonya has successfully represented clients in mediation, arbitration, grievance hearings and state appellate courts. Latonya has been found qualified and twice nominated by the South Carolina Judicial Merit Selection Commission for the position of Administrative Law Court Judge. She is also a certified Circuit Court Mediator and has mediated cases through the Municipal Court system.
